Carved and Painted Wooden Model Of the Ship United States, America, 19th century, the three-masted ship with carved wooden details painted black, white, and gray, mounted on a white painted wooden base, (breaks in the rigging), ht. 32 3/4, lg. 37 1/4 in. Provenance: Estate of Katherine Seeler, Nantucket, Massachusetts. Note: A note included in the lot reads "The ship United States, 372 tons, Captain Calvin B. Worth sailed from Nantucket, November 12,1841 and returned October 16, 1845, with 1422 barrels of sperm oil and ten barrels of whale oil, from the Pacific Ocean. She sailed again on December 8, 1845, under Captain Worth for the Pacific and did not return as she was lost in December 1849 near Tongataboo."
