Canadian, British or American School, 19th Century Portrait of the Ship Lake Superior. Unsigned. Oil on canvas, depicting the three masted ship flying British and Canadian flags and a flag portraying a beaver, sailing on a choppy sea in coastal waters, with a steamship and sailing ships in the distance, 21 1/4 x 35 1/8 in., in a giltwood frame. Condition: Craquelure, varnish inconsistencies, puncture l.r. Provenance: Estate of Katherine Seeler, Nantucket, Massachusetts. Note: The Canadian ship Lake Superior was built in Greenock, Scotland in 1869. It was registered in Montreal in 1874.
