Impressive "Sevres" Porcelain Handpainted Tea Service, late 19th century, parcel-gilt with dark apple green border, comprising a large round tray depicting a full portrait of Napoleon in Imperial garb, signed to left "C. Rochelle," with beaded surround, border of gilt Imperial bees, and laurel garland rim, dia. 19 5/8; twelve teacups, each painted to one side with a portrait bust of a member of the Imperial Court in rectangular beaded frame, ht. 2 1/2, twelve saucers, each painted with a varying depiction of arms, armor and musical instruments, dia. 5; six plates, with round portrait busts, in beaded surround, with bee border, and acanthus rim, dia. 9 1/2; a teapot with rectangular portrait bust of Josephine in acanthus surround, obverse with shield, arms, and flags, ht. 7 5/8; covered sugar similarly painted with bust of Madame Louise, ht. 6 1/2; and covered creamer with bust of the Roi de Rome, ht. 5 1/2; all painted with "M. Imp de Svres" mark, (34 pieces total); all set in a large fitted leather-covered wooden case with lifting handles, lined with ruched silk satin, and embossed to lid with Napoleonic cipher, box lg. 43, wd. 24, dp. 9 in.
