Carved and Painted Covered Box, Lovell, Maine, c. 1817, sliding slanted lid on rectangular box with shaped bracket feet relief-carved flowers, grapes, heart, scallop, and vine motifs, red, green, and brown paint on a mustard-colored ground, (minor imperfections), ht. 8 3/4, wd. 8 3/4, dp. 4 3/4 in. Note: Inscription on underside of lid states: "Carved with knife and used by Byancy Laura Jewell to rock her doll in-1817-she married Absolum Steams and had 8 children"
