Pair of Brass and Iron Ball-top Andirons and Two Matching Tools, America, first quarter 19th century, the ball finials on turned and chamfered column, spurred legs and ball feet, with a shovel and tongs, (some corrosion), ht. 18, dp. 18 1/4, lg. 29 in. Provenance: Joseph Grinnell, 1788-1885, born in New Bedford, Massachusetts, went to New York City in 1809 and engaged in mercantile pursuits. He returned to New Bedford in 1832 and became president of the Wamsutta Cotton Mills and a member of Congress.
