Chippendale Carved Birch Reverse Serpentine Chest, North Shore, Massachusetts, or New Hampshire, c. 1800, the shaped top with molded edge overhangs a case of drawers with cockbeaded surrounds above a conforming molded base with a central fan-carved drop pendant, on shaped ogee bracket feet, original brass, old surface, (minor imperfection), ht. 36, wd. at top 45 1/4, wd. of case 42 1/4, dp. at center of top 19 3/4, dp. at center of case 18 in. Note: The chalk inscription on the backboard reads "J. Smith " It is presumed to be an owner's signature. J. Smith may have resided in Gilmanton, New Hampshire, according to the faded latter part of the inscription.
