Painted and Decorated White Pine Tack Chest, Worcester, Massachusetts area, third quarter 19th century, the hinged top above three pictorial facades and a plain painted one, original maroon paint bordered with black on the top and left side; the front and back include the same eagle-decorated oval reserve, the right side pictures a female figure with animal and fruit symbols, original paint decoration, (very minor surface imperfections), ht. 1 3/4, wd. 43, dp. 30 5/8 in. Provenance: Family descent from Ginery Twichell, in early life a stagecoach driver. It was used, according to oral history, in the stagecoach office. Later Ginery was manager of the largest and most important lines of stagecoaches in New England, afterwards president of the Boston and Worcester Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe, Boston, Barre and Gardner Railroad companies.
