James Sanford Ellsworth (1802-1873, ac. 1835-1855) Two Portrait Miniatures, watercolor on paper, of an elderly lady and her granddaughter, 1850's, probably Connecticut, in original narrow gilt frames; the profiles were done on cut-down valentine envelopes; each is seated in a fanciful chair with yellow frame, the older woman on green upholstery, the younger on cream-colored; the child holds a flower, both have the characteristic cloud-like aureoles that frame the heads of the sitters, (minor staining and overall toning), 3 1/4 x 2 3/4 in. Provenance: Direct descent in the Kibbe family, whose family tree accompanies this lot.
