Chippendale Cherry Carved Secretary Desk, Providence, Rhode Island area, 1765-85, the scrolled molded pediment flanks the central plinth and finial above the applied shell carving atop the central fluted and stop-fluted column flanked by raised panel doors opening to shelved interiors enclosed by quarter-engaged fluted and stop-fluted columns, above a lower case composed of a two-stepped interior of serpentine end-blocked drawers with serpentine dividers and valanced compartments as well as central document drawers with applied columns, above four graduated thumb-molded drawers flanked by fluted and stop-fluted engaged quarter-columns on shaped bracket feet ending in platforms, old surface, some original brasses, (imperfections), ht. 80, wd. 38 1/4, dp.21 in. at base. Provenance: This piece includes the presumed owners' names scratched on the underside of the case: "Abner Lampson, 1743-1797 and Ward Lampson, 1773-1850, Washington N.H."
