Liverpool Creamware Jug, England, early 19th century, black transfer printed, obverse "WASHINGTON" (McCauley 65), an oval design with a medallion portrait on a monument surmounted by a wreath, birth and death dates below, flanked by an eagle and grieving woman, an upper ribbon is inscribed"WASHINGTON IN GLORY," lower ribbon "AMERICA IN TEARS"; reverse a transfer of an American sailing vessel, beneath the spout an American eagle, (imperfections), ht. 10 1/4 in. Provenance: The Rose Art Museum at Brandeis University, Edward and Bertha Rose Collection of Ceramics. Sold to benefit the acquisition fund.
