Sir Anthony Van Dyck (Flemish, 1599-1641) Portrait of Pieter Breughel, the Younger , first state of six (Mauquoy-Hendrickx, 2). Titled and inscribed in ink beneath images, collector's marks Henry Brodhurst, England (Lugt, 1296) and Giuseppe Archinto, Milan (Lugt, 547) on the reverse. Etching on paper with watermark of a phoenix between two laurel branches (similar to Mauquoy-Hendrickx's watermark 252), sheet size 9 5/8 x 6 in. (24.4 x 15.2 cm), framed. Condition: A very good impression with thread margins, subtle abrasion to center of sheet, residual hinge on the left edge of the reverse with attendant skinning. Provenance: Through the estate of Edith Stuyvesant Dresser Vanderbilt Gerry to a private New England collection.
