Point de l'Halluin Tapestries (France, founded 1871), mid 20th century. A French Medieval replica cotton woven tapestry representing 'The Art of Sword Forging - Tubal Cain & Giohargus', after the original tapestry, 1st quarter of the 16th Century, displayed in the Weapons Room #22 in the Cluny Museum Tapestry depicts Tubal Cain, the inventor of the art of forging, forging a bar of iron on an anvil holding aloft a hammer in his left hand, a standing dog nearby barking and to the left, Giohargus, the inventor of weighing with weights, richly dressed with headgear holding a pair of scales in his right hand and a large weight next to his feet. Tapestry is woven with a dark blue ground and dense floral motifs. Point de L'Halluin tag on verso. Overall approximately 125" x 66".
