Max Kuehne (American, 1880-1968) The Cove, East Gloucester Signed "Kuehne" l. l., titled, signed and dated (in pencil) "...1925" on the reverse. Oil on canvas, 20 x 24 in. (50.8 x 61 cm), in a signed and dated "wf.Scott 1-25-89" frame. Condition: Lined, minor scattered retouch, craquelure. N.B. Although he traveled extensively throughout his life, it was Cape Ann that became artist Max Kuehne's favorite destination. An athlete as well as an artist, he eventually set up a studio in Rockport in 1920 in order to spend every summer painting, sailing, and swimming. Some of Kuehne's finest works were produced during his stays on Cape Ann.
