Sarony, Major & Knapp, lithographers (New York, 1857-1864) Lot of Nine Chromolithographs of Western Landscapes from the U. S. Pacific Railroad Exploration & Surveys at the 47th and 49th Parallels. Each titled in the margins and identified in the matrix, sizes to 8 3/8 x 11 3/8 in., unframed. Condition: Top edge has been trimmed on each one, a few subtle creases. Note: In the 1850s, the U.S. government ordered exploration and surveys done for the purpose of determining a route for a transcontinental railroad, (U.S. Pacific Railroad). As part of this exploration a team of naturalists and artists accompanied the expedition, and their work was published as part of the official report. Most of these prints include scenes with Native Americans.
