Jost Joseph Niklaus Schiffmann (Swiss, 1822-1883) Lot of Landscape and Nature Study Sketches Many signed or initialed, some inscribed or dated. Graphite on paper, sizes to 16 x 12 in. (41 x 30.8 cm), unframed. Condition: Scattered foxing, toning, some with damage to corners, minor handling marks. N.B. Between 1843 and 1847, Schiffmann was a member of the Papal Guard in Rome. Many of his drawings reflect his journeys to and from Rome at that time.
