Federal Birch, Bird's-eye Maple, and Mahogany Slant Lid Desk, New England, c. 1800-1815, the lid opens to an interior of central fan-carved drawer flanked by string-inlaid drawers all above seven compartments; the case of four graduated drawers with bird's-eye maple veneer panels bordered by mahogany crossbanding cut-out feet and valanced skirt, old replaced brasses, old refinish, (imperfections), ht. 45 1/2, wd. 40 3/4, dp. 19 in. Provenance: The architect William E. Parsons studied at the Ecole des Beaux Artes and designed the reconstruction of Manila in 1907. He also designed botanical gardens and fountains in Washington, D.C.
