Off the coast of Cohasset, Massachusetts, stands a prominent and historic landmark, Minot's Lighthouse. Before 1847, when construction on the lighthouse began, a rocky shoal hidden by the sea claimed the lives of many unexpecting sailors whose ships were completely torn apart by the rocks. Accessible for construction only three hours each tide, and only in certain weather conditions, the first lighthouse took many years to build and was tragically ruined by heavy waves. The re-building finished in 1860, and the new granite lighthouse has been standing ever since. Today, the light still shines in a 1-4-3 pattern, which is rumored to signal "I love you."
