Plains Beaded Hide Rifle Case, Lakota, possibly Huncpapa, c. 1870s, the long tapered form with fringe from the opening and along the barrel, both ends beaded with white center red, navy blue, and medium green hourglass devices on a white ground, remnant of red trade cloth edging, (minor bead loss), lg. excluding fringe 45 in. Provenance: Collected in 1889 by William Seward Webb while traveling through the West with Bat Masterson as the hunting guide, General Nelson A. Miles, and a cavalry company as protectors against the Indians; deaccessioned from a New England museum.
