Brass Horizontal Sundial, signed "Butterfield a Paris," late 17th/early 18th century, with folding bird gnomon, twin hour scales for latitudes 52o and 49o, and compass box, the underside with latitudes for seventeen Continental cities, lg. 2 3/4 in., in shaped leather case.Note: The quality of the engraving and casting of this dial suggests it was not made by Butterfield himself, but by another, and it is known that copies of Butterfield's work were being made in his day.
