Industrial Metal Nine-Tier Bottle Drying Rack, America, 20th century. Literature: A similar bottle rack as sculpture is illustrated in What is Modern Sculpture? by Robert Goldwater (Museum of Modern Art, New York, publisher, 1969), p.52. The text relates: "Duchamp (Marcel) exercised no physical skills in the fabrication of his "readymade Bottle Rack. ...it is an industrial object...made to serve a practical function...he has isolated it from its familiar practical context and posed it...treating it like a work of art, he has transformed it into one, or at least a simulacrum of one." A photocopy of this work and article and a related article accompany the lot.
