Provenance: By descent to the present Massachusetts collection. Literature: Robert Schmidt, Eugene Boudin 1824-1898, volume II, entry number 2313. N.B. Boudin traveled to Paris in 1847, where he was influenced by the 17th century Dutch school of painters, as well as the Barbizon painters. While in Paris, Boudin befriended and offered advice to many Realist and Impressionist painters, including Courbet and Monet. Boudin believed in painting from nature, and his oeuvre consists mostly of water and harbor views.
