(21.5 x 17.1 cm), framed. Condition: Toning, not examined out of frame. Provenance: Through the estate of Connecticut artist Rachel Breck. N.B. Arthur Rackham was one of the most prolific and well-known illustrators of the early 20th century. His first major success came in 1905 with his illustrations for Washington Irving's Rip van Winkle. Rackham's illustrations of fairy tales and children's literature were very well received. His other major works include illustrations for Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens (1906), Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (1907), and The Wind in the Willows (published posthumously in 1940).
