Polychrome Painted Wooden Bride's Box, Germany, early 19th century, oval covered box, lapped sides laced together with thin strips of wood, the top painted with scene of a woman reclining against a tree, a romantic couple and a dog, with German inscriptions in white painted around the edges, (purportedly translated to mean Her life is diligent, love, rather die than be untrue), the sides with polychrome flowers, red and blue borders, (minor wear), ht. 8 3/8, dia. 18 in.
