English, 19th century. "The Battle of Rorke's Drift", hand colored engraving by Joseph Nash (English, 1808-1878), signed within plate lower right "J. Nash". Engraving depicts English soldiers standing above a pile of dead Zulu warrior bodies, apparently after a win at the Battle of Rorke's Drift. Inscribed below image "The Zulu War - The Gallant Defence of Rorke's Drift by Lieutenants Chard and Bromhead and One Hundred and Thirty-Seven Men". Note: Engraving was an illustration for The Graphic, published on March 15, 1879. Framed 30.75" x 22.75", unframed 20.5" x 12.25".
