Collection of Silver Filigree Jewelry, approximately 194 insect, floral, vegetal, architectural, and other brooches and pins, twenty hairpins set en tremblant, thirty-seven charm and bangle bracelets, and four cases, all . 800 silver, some gilt. This lot constitutes the remaining stock of the Tassitro/Vaccheri/Francesconi family shipping business. Included with the lot are copies of inventories dating from the 1850s showing that the ships transported silver jewelry and other goods. In the 1860s, the ships were deployed and one of their captains decorated in the war for Italian unity (documentation included); in the 1870s, the company began importing silver and coral jewelry into the United States. By 1891, the families had resettled in New York. The jewelry was produced in Bari, an ancient port city in southern Italy, primarily by Albanian craftsmen. Designs were modeled on Revival prototypes.
