American School, 19th Century Portrait of Fire Engine Pumper Excelsior Eagle 3. Unsigned. Oil on canvas, depicting a firefighting vehicle originally owned by the Brewer, Maine Fire Department, surrounded by a proscenium over a frieze with crossed horns and nozzles and scrolling leafage, 47 x 77 in. (sight size), in a gold painted rococo-style frame embellished with firefighting equipment and paraphernalia in relief, the lower central hose wagon flanked by two figures with hoses connecting to hydrants at the corners, with American shields, axes, and horns. Condition: Good, losses to frame.
