American School, 19th Century Two Miniature Portraits on Ivory of a Lady Wearing a Paisley Shawl. c. 1840-60. Unsigned. Watercolor on ivory, the images depicting the same woman in nearly identical poses, wearing a white lace bonnet and a black dress, inner printed paper label affixed to both cases reads "Made at Smith's No. 2 Milk St., Opposite Old South, Boston...," 3 5/8 x 2 3/4, 3 1/2 x 2 5/8 in., both in embossed leather covered cases. Condition: Small area of paint loss on one at l.r, both cases separated at spine.
