Pair of Chinese Export Polychrome Decorated Oval Armorial Platters, 1770-80, the platters decorated in the center with a rococo cartouche enclosing a grisaille arm holding a shield, with the hand clenching the strap of the shield and holding a victory laurel, above a rose banner inscribed with the motto "SUB CLYPEO" (behind the shield), encircled by polychrome floral sprigs and fruit, the rim with four floral border panels within bianco-sopra-bianco scrollwork and four cartouches painted with flowers and fruit, the underside of the cavetto with a border of bamboo, flowers and fruit with gilt highlights, dia. 11 1/2 in.
