Shaker Maple, Birch, and Pine Revolving Chair, Mount Lebanon, New York, 1860-1870, the semi-circular spindled half-back above a turned hollow seat, mounted on a cast iron swiveling mechanism with a brass collar above a spider arched base, original surface, (imperfections), ht. 28 1/4, seat ht. 19 1/4 in. Note: This chair was an innovative addition in the 1860s to the Shaker furniture. They described the chair at the time as "turning on a screw pivot every which way"; this chair is stylistically similar to plate 34 in Shaker Design, Whitney Museum of American Art Exhibition.
