Hays, autograph letter signed, two pages, as President, to Governor John Long, responding to a letter of complaint sent to him by Long which references a report of the Secretary of the Interior, "my attention...was too late to repair the wrong without the action of Congress," (three losses on second page); third, William McKinley, autograph letter signed, one page, January 25th, 1896, to Governor Long, concerning his upcoming appointment as Secretary of the Navy, (blank leaf torn); together with two autograph letters, one from Lyman Gage, the other George Boutwell.
