Federal Mahogany and Rosewood Veneer Cylinder Desk, attributed to Samuel Doggett, New Bedford, Massachusetts, 1820s, the rectangular top with a triple-banded veneer on a cylinder which opens to reveal four central valanced compartments flanked by small drawers on a felt-lined writing surface above two short and two long drawers all cockbeaded and veneer outlined, on a shaped skirt and short turned legs, original brasses, old refinish, (minor imperfections), ht. 46, wd. 38, dp. 22 in. Note: A copy of a note accompanies this desk reading "This desk was made by a veteran of the Revolutionary War, Samuel Doggett, at his home and shop on Court Street, for his son, John Doggett."
