Silk Needlework Picture, America, early 19th century, depicting a young man playing a flute to a shepherdess with her five sheep, flanked by two trees in solid stitches on a silk ground, painted facial features and sky, 14 1/2 x 13 1/4 in (sight), in a molded and gilded frame. Note: An inscription in pencil on the reverse of the frame reads: "Worked by Sophia Coffin Aldrich while at school in Sutton, Mass. about 1806 and Grandmother of Bertrand F. Aldrich."
