Federal Mahogany Inlaid Tall Case Clock, "Ezekiel Reed, Bridgewater," Massachusetts, c. 1790, the pierced fret with fluted plinths holding brass finials above the arched molded crest and string inlaid glazed door flanked by free-standing fluted columns opens to a painted metal dial with pink floral central reserve and pink floral spandrels outlined in gilt, a seconds hand and strike aperture enclose an eight-day weight-driven brass movement above a waist door with an applied molding and crossbanded veneer flanked by quarter-engaged fluted columns with brass capitals and bases above bird's-eye maple inlaid simulated plinths on a lower case with similar crossbanded mahogany veneer on a shaped skirt flanked by flaring French feet, old surface, (imperfections), ht. 92 1/2 in. Literature: The Book of American Clocks , by Brooks Palmer, New York, 1928, notes "Ezekiel Reed Brockton or Bridgewater Mass before 1800.
