Frank Weston Benson (American, 1862-1951) Yellow Legs in Sunlight/ A monotype impression of a sketch on the original plate, c. 1928 (Paff, 285). Signed "Frank W. Benson" in pencil, annotated in lower margin. Monotype on laid paper, plate size 9 7/8 x 7 5/8 in. (25.1 x 19.4 cm), framed. Condition: Deckled edges with margins over 1 1/4 inches, soiling and fingerprints to margins, repaired tears to lower margins. N.B. To get a sense of how his compositions would look in reverse, Benson started drawing on his plates and printing an impression by running the plate through the press. He began this process circa 1918, and, according to Paff, used this process "in practically all the drypoints and in many etchings."
