Unusual Bisque Character Lady Doll by Alexandre Leverd, France, c. 1870, seldom seen doll with very narrow dark blue glass eyes, open-closed mouth, deeply sculpted facial modeling, recessed hairline area for application of wig as patented in 1869, boldly impressed SGDG on back of head, socket head on bisque shoulder plate (minor speckling and bubble bursts on head and shoulder plate), kid over gutta percha body with stamped mark on torso E. Leverd Cie PARIS Brevete S.G.D.G., (right arm, left forearm, and left foot are missing, small damage to joints), doll ht. 19 in. Note: This doll incorporates two major doll patents taken by Leverd, one for the use of kid over gutta percha in 1850, the other for the recessed hairline.
