Early Gutta Percha Lady Doll, probably America, c. 1840s, black pupil-less painted eyes, lower eyelashes angle outward, upper lashes toward center of head, closed red-toned mouth in slight smile, exposed ears, dark molded hair falling into curls behind ears onto shoulder plate, suggestion of wire at lower edge as on mystery linen head dolls with same eyelash painting, (light nick on nose, some chipping on shoulder back, minor to front), cloth body, kid arms with separate fingers (breaks on hands), fine red wool princess-line dress with pleating detail and black buttons down back, early kid slippers, ht. 18 1/2 in.
