Fairbanks' Infallible Counterfeit Coin Detector, Baltimore, Maryland, c. 1896, of McNally-Harrison pattern, the nickeled rocker with slots for U.S. gold and silver coins, on gilt-decorated cast iron base with slot for (replaced) counterweight, in maker's cardboard box with (faded) gilt label on lid and interior illustrated instructions and advertising labels with table of full and least weights of gold coins, wd. 9 1/2 in. Note: W.H. Harrison is listed as manager of the company on the label, which also states that the Detector is approved for use by the U.S. government, and that the price was $5.35.
