Davis-pattern Medical Coil by Jerome, Jewell & Co. , Bristol, Connecticut, 1847-49, with red-covered coil, gilt-brass bindings with foliate and geometric cast designs and twin urn finials, brass binding posts and pillar supports, on rosewood base with gilt ball feet and maker's label ....Manufacturers of Galvanic Instruments... , wd. 10 in., with one handle and green painted cell with one (of two) binding post, in fitted grained case. The case is lined with pages from a New York City newspaper from May 1877 with an address label of one Cornelia Wright, Glastonbury, Connecticut. Nobel Jerome of the famous clock making family was in business with Lyman Jewell and David Mathews for only two years prior to their bankruptcy. A similar Medical Coil was sold in Skinner Science & Technology, April 13, 2002, lot 85.
