Kata Hull (American, 20th Century) Midsummer Signed, titled and dated "Kata Hull... 1999" on the reverse. Oil on board, 35 x 23 in. (89 x 58.3 cm), framed. Condition: Good. N.B. Kata Hull is a contemporary Boston artist who works in various painting media. Her work has been shown extensively throughout the Boston area, where she keeps a studio. She teaches at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts. Of her work, she writes, "I have been learning to ride waves in various places, mostly in the Caribbean, where my family gathers every February for a week. Both my brothers are accomplished body surfers, the oldest practically has gills, and every year I ask for pointers on how to do it. But much like the process of making art, it's a tacit knowledge, something that cannot be explained or taught directly. It is an understanding learned by experience, wave by wave... It's good to know how to concede to a greater force, or suffer the potentially disastrous consequences of trying to control the outcome...The most important things emerge from the hurly burly of everyday life and come into focus more clearly - all else is background."
