Two Needlework Samplers, Roxbury, probably Massachusetts, 1816 and 1824, worked in silk threads on a linen ground, one with three alphabet panels over a pious verse and stitched "Roxbury August 23 wrought by Elizabeth A. Newman AE 9 A.D. 1816," enclosed in a geometric floral border; the other with three alphabet panels and stitched "Eliza Maxfield Aged 12 years Roxbury Octr 10th 1824," enclosed in linear borders, (toning, fading), framed, 11 x 10, 10 1/8 x 8 3/8 in.
