Carved and Painted Wooden Cole Brothers Small Animal Circus Wagon, America, 20th century, the small rectangular wagon embellished with a carved and applied wooden bell-form finial, leafy scrolls, and floral motifs, applied gilt-metal mermaid, Asian figures, seahorses, putto, shell, and leaf designs, braided gold trim and tassels; the name "Cole Bros." inscribed in gilt lettering on side crest rails, the wagon painted red, blue, and mustard with gilt highlights, (wear), ht. 47, lg. 56, wd. 23 1/2 in. Note: The Cole Brothers Circus began in 1884 when William Washington Cole introduced Cole's New Colossal Shows. In 1956 it joined with the Clyde Beatty Circus and continues today as The Clyde Beatty Cole Bros. Circus, exhibiting the traditional three-ring circus under the Big Top.
