Edward J. Walsh (British, 1756-1832) View of Quebec From Point Levi 1832. Signed "E.J. Walsh" l.r., inscribed "Good Shepherd Convent" l.l., titled and dated below. Pastel and pen and ink on artist board, showing a portion of an Indian settlement on the shore of a river in the foreground, sailing vessels, a steamer, and canoes on the river beyond with numerous buildings of Three Rivers, Quebec in the distance, 15 3/8 x 19 5/8 in., in a molded giltwood frame. Condition: Minor toning. Note: Edward Walsh was a surgeon in the 49th Regiment of Foot and an amateur artist executing some works while stationed in Canada. The Convent of the Good Shepherd, an Ursuline Convent, was founded in 1641 and located at Three Rivers Quebec and among the buildings illustrated in the distance.
