Federal Mahogany Veneer Basin Stand, New England, early 19th century, the scalloped backsplash above the basin cut outs with its shaped skirt over a medial shelf with one working and one faux cockbeaded drawer outlined in cross banded veneer on four reeded legs ending in turned feet, old surface, replaced brass, (minor imperfections), ht. 43 1/2, wd. 24, dp. 16 1/4 in. Provenance: this stand furnished Mowbra Hall, Westchester County, New York... a house whose furnishings "were assembled by two dedicated collectors, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph E. Carpenter jr. as a result of their deep appreciation for the decorative arts of New England" according to The Connoisseur , June and August 1972,"Mowbra Hall and a Collection of Period Rooms" p. 3.
