Pewter Plate, Thomas Danforth III, late 18th century, circular with single reed brim, oval lion touchmark with "TI" initials and four hallmarks [Laughlin 363a and 365], normal wear, dia. 7 7/8 in. Note: John Carl Thomas in Connecticut Pewter and Pewterers relates on pp. 51-56, that the mark on this plate is most likely that of Thomas Danforth III, because of the sequence of damage in the hallmarks, noted throughout many years of use by various members of the Danforth family, used along with the lion in gateway mark, indicating this mark was used in the 1790's and as late as 1800.
