Rare Miraphone 18 1/2-inch Combined Disc Musical Box and Phonograph, No. 8984, with duplex combs, pronounced bass teeth, zither attachment covering treble combs only, patent plaque with dates to 1905, speed-control, optional 11 1/2-inch turntable, mica soundbox and resonator with sun-burst grille, in serpentine mahogany console cabinet with double doors enclosing the movement and vertical disc / record storage, papier-mache horn concealed by pierced grille of fretwork flowers and ribbons, blind-fret on two sides, and carved angel trumpeter Hermes at the four corners, on ball-and-claw feet, wd. 27 x ht. 50 in. , with approx. ten discs. Note: Designed and advertised with the American market in mind, the Miraphone musical box / phonograph combination was produced from around 1903 - 1910, although in far fewer numbers than its competitor, the Reginaphone. Unlike the Stella, the Miraphone plays on discs with projections, with a strong bass accompaniment.
