Fine Culpeper-Type Microscope, England, circa 1730, the fishkin-covered lignum vitae tube with inner green-paper covered sleeve, turned walnut eyepiece with dust-slide and two threaded wood-bound objectives (one mount chipped ) with identification notches, supported by two sets of three splayed baluster-turned lacquered-brass pillars, circular stage with sprung bayonet-mount, sliding catch and mounting holes for bull's-eye and forceps, on turned lignum base with concave metal reflector backed with black fabric, ht. closed 14 in., in pyramidal oak case with lock, brass escutcheon, carrying handle and drawer containing brass live-cell, later forceps and accessories, ht. of case 17 in.
