Attributed to Henry Schreiner Stellwagen (American, d. 1866) Three Watercolor Landscapes. The first unsigned, watercolor on paper, showing four standing figures with three horses and a figure on horseback looking across a valley at a sunset, inscribed in pencil on the reverse "Gunning Excursion to La Huaca/Painted at Sea 9th August 1851 off Cape Horn," 6 3/4 x 9 3/4, unframed. (tape residue on reverse); the second unsigned, watercolor on paper, showing two ships in a cove at sunset, inscribed at lower right "Near Sacramento Cal," and on the reverse "Near Sacramento California/1849," 5 1/4 x 8 in., unframed. (slightly faded, minor stains u.r and l.r.); the third unsigned, watercolor and ink on paper, showing two walking uniformed figures with harbor below, inscribed on reverse "Place where Genl. Wolfe's men gained the Heights of Abraham in 1759," 6 x 8 3/4, unframed. Condition: glue residue on reverse. Note: the inscription on the last watercolor above refers to the British troops' amphibious assault on and eventual taking of the Canadian city of Quebec.
