Engraved Whale's Tooth, America, c. 1835, one side showing a square rigged ship in full sail flying an American flag and pennant, the reverse decorated with a tombstone reserve with a ship portrayed in the top arch, above a woman wearing a fanciful dress with puffy sleeves and decorative trim, her hair blowing, a scarf billowing out behind her, her left arm rests on an anchor (the symbol of hope), the reserve enclosed by entwined leafy vine and geometric borders, lg. 5 1/4 in.
