Pieced Cotton and Chintz Friendship Quilt, Port of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, 1842, the quilt with eighty-one white cotton squares with pieced and appliqued turkey red calico printed corners, each centered with a pen and ink signature and a motif such as clasped hands, sailing vessels, musical instruments, flowers etc. , many dated 1842, the squares joined together form a pattern of rows of red dots, with a glazed floral printed chintz border, edged in white twill, white cotton backing, with running shell and wavy line quilt stitches, (light staining), 92 x 96 in.
