Paint and Stencil-Decorated Pine Dower Chest, probably Schoharie County, New York, c. 1825-35, the hinged molded lift top opens to an interior with till, on dovetail-constructed chest, on bracket feet, original red umber and brown grain paint, the front with a stenciled compote filled with fruit and flowers, below which is painted the initials "M.A.", with a leaf, floral and rosette border, (minor imperfections), ht. 23, wd. 49 1/2, dp. 20 1/2 in.
